The South Carolina Department of Consumer Affairs sent out a letter in regard to South Carolina's motor vehicle dealers' laws and filing requirements. In this newsletter, we have attached that letter to let all SC dealers know of the updates and notifications! 

Five individuals have been charged in connection with a multi-million dollar car theft ring based in Charlotte, North Carolina. The suspects, identified as Kevin Fields, Hosea Hampton, Reginald Hill, Garyka Bost, and Dewanne White, were involved in a three-year operation that spanned several states. The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Western District of North Carolina announced the charges.

To all CIADA Members, the Nominating Committee met as required, and the slate of officers recommended by the Nominating Committee has been made available to members per the By-Laws of the CIADA.

The deadline for compliance with the Federal Trade Commission’s (FTC) “Safeguards Rule” is June 9, 2023.* CIADA is here to help you meet and understand that deadline. This checklist was designed to assist automobile dealers on a budget to comply with the FTC Safeguards Rule. However, the FTC is clear that larger organizations have more requirements based on their size. No matter your size, do not just go out and get a one size fits all program. The FTC has been clear that an unfollowed compliance program offers you no protection from enforcement. You should have the following in place no later than June 9, 2023.

Carolinas Independent Automobile Dealers Association is to launch its new group Dealer Advisory Group in 2023! The meetings will take place in North and South Carolina. Dates will be released soon for our classes! 

The National Independent Automobile Dealers Association (NIADA) announced Jeff Martin as its new Chief Executive Officer in February. 

The General Assembly of North Carolina increased interest rates in 2023. We have attached the rate increase in this newsletter. 

Recent media reports vastly undercounted catalytic converter thefts in the U.S., new CARFAX data shows. Thieves removed the devices from as many as 153,000 vehicles in the U.S. in 2022, far more than earlier estimates. CARFAX data scientists reviewed catalytic converter replacements from millions of service and maintenance records to arrive at this number.
